Assessment Title

Rule Text

The SUSE operating system must be a vendor-supported release.

Description

Discussion Text

A SUSE operating system release is considered "supported" if the vendor continues to provide security patches for the product. With an unsupported release, it will not be possible to resolve security issues discovered in the system software. The reconstructed evaluation script behind this rule's OVAL check(s) — every module a compound check combines, with this rule's own concrete values and DISA's SCC tool's real per-module mechanism curated from static teardown of SCC releases.

Assessment Script Powered by AISandbox-executed

A standalone Shell script to assess this control automatically. Review before running it in your environment.

Syntax-checked and actually executed in an isolated sandbox (not the real system this checks) — confirmed to run without errors.

#!/bin/sh
# OVAL definition: oval:mil.disa.stig.sles15:def:100
if [ ! -f "/etc/os-release" ]; then echo "PASS"; exit 0; fi; cat /etc/os-release | grep -q "^CPE_NAME=\"cpe:/o:suse:sles:15:sp7[^\"]*\"" || echo "FAIL"; exit 1

Remediation

Upgrade the SUSE operating system to a version supported by the vendor. If the system is not registered with the SUSE Customer Center, register the system against the correct subscription.

If the system requires Long-Term Service Pack Support (LTSS), obtain the correct LTSS subscription for the system.
