V-242009CAT IIInbound exceptions to the firewall on domain workstations must only allow authorized remote management hosts.Check text, Discussion

Check text

This requirement is NA for servers and non domain workstations. Verify firewall exceptions for inbound connections on domain workstations only allow authorized management systems and remote management hosts. Review inbound firewall exception rules in WindowsMicrosoft Defender Firewall with Advanced Security. Firewall rules can be complex and should be reviewed with the firewall administrator. One method for restricting inbound connections is to only allow exceptions for a specific scope of remote IP addresses. If allowed inbound exceptions are not limited to authorized management systems and remote management hosts, this is a finding.

Discussion

Allowing inbound access to domain workstations from other systems may allow lateral movement across systems if credentials are compromised. Limiting inbound connections only from authorized remote management systems will help limit this exposure.

How these changes are found

Checks are matched across the two releases by V-number. A check counts as updated when DISA gave it a new rule revision (the r number in its SV-…_rule id) and its title, severity, check text, fix text, discussion, CCIs or other fields changed — the same comparison STIG Compare makes. Added checks are new V-numbers; removed checks are V-numbers V2R2 no longer has.

Comparing other releases, or this one against an older release? Pick any two in STIG Compare.
